Heidelberg Gifts: What to Bring for Whom

You've spent a wonderful day in Heidelberg – and now the question arises: What should I bring back? For the colleague who already has everything. For the parents who aren't collectors of knick-knacks. For the children who prefer something nice to touch rather than another slime kit.

We answer this question daily in our store near the Church of the Holy Spirit. Here is our honest overview.

For the person who actually needs nothing

This is usually the hardest part. Someone who needs nothing will appreciate something with a story – but that doesn't take up too much space.

A good approach: a high-quality Heidelberg magnet. It might sound unspectacular at first – but a well-made magnet with a real motif (castle, Old Bridge, Church of the Holy Spirit) will hang on the fridge for years and serve as a daily reminder of the visit. No dust, no shelf, no problem.

Alternatively: a Heidelberg print or an illustrated postcard that can be framed. Don't throw it away, don't let it gather dust – hang it up.

For children

Children want something they can touch – ideally something with character. The Heidelberg Bridge Monkey as a plush toy is our tip: the character from the Heidelberg legend is regional, likable, and makes children curious about the story behind it. €18.50, available directly from us.

Also good: small magnets, keychains, or a Heidelberg puzzle. Things that are used instead of gathering dust on a shelf.

For parents or grandparents

Here, something with a connection is worthwhile. A Heidelberg beer stein – handmade, with a motif – is a souvenir that doesn't look like it came from a souvenir shop, but rather looks like it was thoughtfully chosen. The same applies to traditional costumes or Black Forest specialties that evoke culinary memories.

If you're unsure: We're happy to advise you personally in our store. Just describe who it's for – we'll find something.

For friends who enjoy traveling themselves

This group is often the easiest: Something that showcases the city without being kitschy. A good postcard, a high-quality city map as an art print, or a small object with a real connection to Heidelberg – the Bridge Monkey as a figurine, for example, or a miniature castle.

Travelers don't collect things – they collect memories. The gift should trigger one of them.

For anyone for whom you really have no idea

Honestly: A nice magnet almost always works. Small, unpretentious, but with a real connection to the city. And if someone doesn't like souvenirs at all, a beautiful Heidelberg postcard with a few handwritten lines is often the most personal thing you can bring.

Also very popular as a souvenir for adults: our Heidelberg Basecaps in various colors – subtly embroidered, suitable for everyday wear, from €15.

Where can you find all this?

In our store directly at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Heidelberg's Old Town. We are open daily – and if you're not sure what you're looking for, just come in and ask. We do that every day.
